In the world of asset management, knowing what's happening right now is just as important as knowing where your assets are. Our Alerts & Notifications feature is your personal assistant, designed to proactively inform you about key events across your fleet. Instead of constantly checking your dashboard, you can receive instant updates directly to your preferred communication channels. Let's set up your alerts to ensure you never miss a beat!
Why Are Alerts Important?
Alerts are essential for:
Proactive Management: Respond quickly to unexpected events like an asset leaving a designated area or running low on battery.
Enhanced Security: Get immediate warnings about potential unauthorized movement or tampering.
Operational Efficiency: Stay informed about critical milestones (like shipment starts or ends) or potential issues that could impact your logistics.
Time-Saving: Reduce the need for constant manual monitoring, allowing you to focus on other critical tasks.
How to Set Up Alerts?
To configure your notifications, you'll find the Alerts tab on your main dashboard:
On the landing page, look at the menu located just above the map. You'll find the "Alerts" tab after "Trackers," "Geofences," and "Shipments." Click on the "Alerts" tab.
Choose Your Notification Types. On the Alerts tab, you'll see a list of different types of notifications you can opt to receive. The available alerts often depend on your tracker hardware capabilities. Toggle on/off the specific alerts you wish to receive. Common alert types include:
Device Enters/Exits Geofence: Get notified when a tracker crosses a virtual boundary you've defined.
Low Battery: An alert when a device's battery level is critical.
Temperature / Movement / Other Hardware Alerts: (If your tracker supports these sensors) Notifications related to environmental conditions or physical motion.
Shipment Begin / End / Late: Alerts tied to the start, completion, or delay of your defined shipments.
Financial Notifications:
Subscription Notifications: Updates regarding your service subscriptions.
Order and Billing Notifications: Alerts related to new orders or billing events.
Select Your Notification Channels. Below the alert types, you'll find the "Send Notifications via" section. Tick the boxes next to your preferred notification channels. This is where you choose how you want to receive these alerts:
Email: Sent to the email address on file for your user account.
Push Notification (Mobile App): If you use our mobile application, alerts will appear as push notifications on your device.
SMS (Text Message): If you have a phone number saved to your personal user profile, you can select this option to receive SMS notifications.
Update Your Notification Settings. Once you've made your selections for alert types and channels, click the "Update Notifications" button at the bottom to save your changes.
Understanding Your Recent Alerts
Below your notification settings, you'll find a clear overview of the recent alerts that have occurred across all devices linked to your account.
At-a-Glance Information: This list displays details like the device name (if assigned, otherwise its serial number) and the type of alert (e.g., "Device A has a low battery").
Timestamp: Each alert is accompanied by the exact date and time it occurred.
Pagination: If you have many alerts, you can navigate through multiple pages to review your full alert history.
Important Note: Alerts vs. Rules (Advanced)
The "Alerts" tab provides account-wide default notifications for common events. However, our platform also features a more advanced "Rules" feature.
Rules: Customized, Conditional Alerts: The "Rules" feature allows for highly specific, conditional, and often more automated alerts based on complex logic (e.g., "IF tracker enters Geofence A AND stays for >30 mins, THEN send SMS to John Doe").
Rules Override Alerts: If your account utilizes the "Rules" feature (often enabled by your CSM for specific, advanced use cases), any settings programmed within "Rules" will typically override or bypass the general settings configured in the "Alerts" tab. This ensures that your most precise, use-case-specific notifications take precedence.
We'll dive into the powerful "Rules" feature in a separate, dedicated article for those looking to implement highly customized automation.
